The Problem

Increasing social media use and limited local art opportunities have led to rising loneliness and a lack of genuine community connection.

The Mission

The Terracotta Tulip is an exciting and uplifting space that fosters creativity and friendship through hands-on ceramic and floral experiences, offering a mindful, in-person alternative to this digital isolation.

A space to create

The Terracotta Tulip blends the art of floristry with ceramic creativity. Offering unique experiences where customers can create personalized pots and vibrant floral arrangements. Dedicated to community engagement and artistic expression, The Terracotta Tulip celebrates the beauty of nature and craftsmanship, inviting everyone to explore their creativity. The shop is open with lots of greenery, natural light, and positive energy. The front of the building is a fully operating floral shop, while the back is a ceramic studio, available for classes and for local ceramicists to rent studio spaces.

The Brand

A tulip inspires the logo mark. The pot’s shape resembles the bulb of a tulip, while the flower growing from the pot symbolizes growth, creativity, and the possibilities that emerge at The Terracotta Tulip.

The palette is inspired by the color of terracotta clay itself and the parts of a pink tulip. Optima Nova was chosen for the heading, logo, and wordmark as its geometric shape resembles the structural integrity of clay. Caviar Dreams, a rounded, simple sans-serif typeface, was selected as the body type to complement the simplicity of floral forms.

Build A Bouquet

Aprons are available in both the floral and studio areas.

A build-a-bouquet station in the floral shop invites people to arrange their own mix of florals. An array of ribbon, string, tools, and wrapping paper is available.

A thank you card comes along with ordered bouquets.

If ordering flowers for someone else, there are cards to choose from for any type of occasion.

Process

To start ideating, I quickly jotted down ideas for the combination of a floral shop and a ceramics studio. Once I had solidified my idea, I did a mind map covering the main goals and ideas. Next, I put together moodboards to establish an aesthetic. From there, the process continued, and the Terracotta Tulip was born!
